Abstract

Children with intellectual disabilities face challenges in intellectual development, affecting their academic abilities and daily activities, including fine motor skills. Limitations in fine motor skills hinder their ability to perform simple tasks, such as writing or tying shoelaces. Play therapy, involving enjoyable and interactive activities, can naturally support the development of these skills in children with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to review the effectiveness of play therapy in improving fine motor skills among children with intellectual disabilities through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach using the PRISMA method. The review findings indicate that play therapy activities such as mosaic making, paper weaving, and simple Lego play have a significant positive impact on the development of fine motor skills. These therapies enhance hand-eye coordination, small muscle control, and precision activities. In conclusion, play therapy is proven to be an effective intervention approach for improving independence and quality of life in children with intellectual disabilities.
